The Alpha Team and Program
Before you sign up for a particular ministry you should take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the basics of Alpha by watching these videos. There are more available at Alpha USA.
Alpha is not like other bible study or small groups you may have participated in before. The focus in Alpha is on building relationships and that takes time. It is critically important to Alpha that guests who come want to come back. Some differences that may seem strange for a church meeting:
- We don’t say grace or pray to start the meeting. (We do pray for those who come before, during, and after the meeting but not so they would notice.)
- We don’t correct people. We let people share their beliefs and opinions and really listen to them.
- We start and end on time.
When you decide to respond to God’s call in this ministry email us to let us know.

Prayer: This is the most important part of any ALPHA program. All ALPHA team members are expected to pray for those who will be attending. This is an ideal ministry for those unable to attend during the evening.

Sign Up Table: When a person enters the room for an ALPHA evening they should be greeted and encouraged to provide some basic information.
Small Group Facilitator: The main job for this person is to keep the conversation going. Alpha small groups are different than other church groups. We let the video present the Christian message and then listen to the conversation. A small group facilitator needs to listen without correcting and love the others in the group. Training via Zoom or in-person will be available and is required.
Food Service: Those called to this ministry provide food for the evening. The meal is served by volunteers practicing the current COVID precautions.
Child Care: Those who help with this ministry must be Virtus trained and background checked per diocese requirements. Each evening during the video and small group discussions the child care team will provide a program consisting of videos, crafts, and bible stories.
Clean up: When Alpha is finished for the evening we will be needing help cleaning up and putting the room back in order. If you can stay a little late to help it will be much appreciated.
